After being introduced and reading Dr. Nick Cooper-Lewter’s book, Black Grief and Soul Therapy, my life has not been the same. His book has allowed me to define my own unresolved grief. These words were an eyeopener for me that I received from Dr. Cooper-Lewter: “We are kept detached from the deeper pools of our grief, to the degree that we leave church with our grief unresolved and our lives unchanged.
-A Conscience mind is a healthy mind
Without question [he has] changed the lives, in a very positive way, of the athletes that have been involved in our program at the Olympic Center.
As a boxing champion, I understood that the mind has 90% to do with my success in the ring. At the end of my amateur career in 2009, I worked with Dr Nick before competing in my first National tournament at the US Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO. I fought focused in a 5 day tournament winning every fight. Eventually, I lost to the Olympic alternate in the semi finals. I received the bronze medal placing me 3rd on the ranking list of my weight class for the very first time!
I went on the fight 20 professional fights, with a winning record of 17-3 with my eyes set on becoming a world champion, Dr Nick introduced to me the mental aspect to my performance!
